Another week more to Chinese New Year. Still haben bought any new clothes for new year, wonder what to wear for new year. Also going to pass out from my course and posted to new unit, or staying back at Stagmont.
My computer is gone sian, brought it to SLS for repair but the staff said most probably the CPU or motherboard is dead. Sian bought not even 2yrs. Have been using my sis computer to surf net and check mails.
The past 2 weeks were known to be "Test Week". Alot of theory and practical tests. We also had alot of excerise to be familiarised with the operations and usage of equipments.
Last Thursday I had my weekday guard duty 12hr shift, the next day i had 2 tests to take. First time being a prowler, at least not so sian having to stand for 4hrs near the gate on Boxing Day. My partner was boy boy and we were the second shift so managed to catch a nap. All went well for the night, the Duty Officer did not gave us stand to or turnout. The next morning, the RP came early and managed to change shift and took a bathe before going for our next lessons.
While waiting for my turn to take the test, i slept for along time i waited for nearly 7.5hs before completing the tests. Was glad I managed to answer most of the questions whilst sleeping instead of revising. By 1830, book out from camp. Went to meet Bok Wee at Paya Lebar to collect my dreamcast games. He is having a strange medical condition and had been warded to hospital for a month and since then haven reported to camp and was rated Pes F by the MO. I hope his condition would improve and able to continue life as usual.
Just now went Chinatown with my mum for chinese new year shopping, as usual very crowded. Something funny happened. We were sharing a table with a group of malaysians. One of them ordered Hor Fun even before we were seated. After i finished my dinner of pig leg trotters, cahr siew rice and big bowl of fishead beehoon, her Hor Fun still was not ready.

Days in camp
Year 2005
Very long time had not blog, abit lazy.
So fast already after 4 months at Tekong doing my BMT, its already 2005. Countdown to ORD haha not countdown to POP.
Tsunami
Towards the end of 2004, something catastrophic happened, the Tsunami. The Tsunami came without any warning and caught many people unprepared thus costing many lives and damages. Well we could not do anything but pray for the safe return of those lost and injured. I also did my minor part by donating to the relief groups, not a large amount but a thought. We could see the kindness and unity of various people from different countries and background helping hit areas for a single cause.
Reading from the papers, pictures of bodies submerged in water for days or weeks, partial village, or resort suffering washed away by the speeding waves. By looking at these heart-wrenching pictures, one could pray that we are lucky that we are still alive. Everyday on TV, newspapers, radio, streets we could see the plea for donations to rebuild these places. The money not only to rebuilt but to compensate damages and buy supplies like food, water and medical.
Wealthy artistes, celebrities, sportsmen, businessmen, politicians also donated generously for the cause, donating quite a large sum of their income. We could see their generousity and demostrates a role model for everyone to follow.

2005, also meant a new year with new resolutions and wishes. The first week of 2005, my best friend since poly, Kai had flew to Australia 2 months for training. It was a great opportunity for him as his career is secured with a good life. I always joked to him, your first pay could pay the instalment for an Evo. Rembering the times we were together through thick and thin. I wished him all the best and be back safe and sound soon. Too bad, he would be spending Lunar New Year at aussie. The celebration atmosphere there be different from us here. I guess he would be missing, his gf, family, friends and the food here.

After the last parade we are free to do our stuffs.
Physical emphasis is not that important here, as we are being trained to be intelligent and skilled soldiers. Lots of lessons taught by warrant officers, sergants and self-learning via computers. Sometimes before dinner, we would have IPPT training 5 static stations and a jog around the camp > 2.4km. After being posted here, my fitness very weak could not endure the run on the second round barely catching my breathe.
1 month passed and we had numerous tests and excerises. Tests in the form of practical operating and setting up of equipment or theory where we took our tests via the server. Most of the questions are very tricky, stimulates your mind by burning all your brain cells. One question could make your head grow bigger. Imagine 25 - 50 questions in a given time.
Excerises here are very fun. Since now we had 5 execrises some inside or outside camp. Some travelling on our own or via landrover. One excerise we travelled on foot outside the camp to various checkpoints. One ex was abit highly dangerous but safe if observed and follow safety instructions. The latest execrise on Thursday, our platoon are divided into various groups and loaded on different landrovers to various part of Singapore for monitoring.
Another month and 11 Feb would be posted out to unit, by that time, life would be another different story. My job based here would moslt be posted to bigger units
Advantages of my camp comparison to Tekong
1) My camp located near CCK Int. (Lot 1 Shopping centre our Nights off hangout)
2) My bunk is closest to the gate and cookhouse. (no need to march so far)
3) Bunk on 3rd floor only( Total 6 stories, 1st floor is storerooms, 6th floor currently is lecture and computer labs)
4) Toilet is much bigger and better facilities (10 showers, 10 cubicles
5) Beds better than Tekong
6) 2200 book in timing (Can stay at home longer for dinner)
7) Can visit canteen (Can buy food, magazines, newspapers)

Conclusion in unit more freedom, but freedom comes heavy responsibility. During EX have to draw so many stores, if lost hong gan sign extra maybe guard duties or 1206. Nights off good lor, at least you can leave camp for awhile for breather. I still think that life in Tekong is more fun compared to unit.
We also gave our platoon mates, instructors many codenames like boy boy, whiskey, pocky, bravo foxtrot, Ah nei, CID, Cai Yi Ling and Uncle Tor.
Yesterday after our EX, we had a Commander Evening. We had buffet and steamboat dinner at the Hall. When we reached there, most of the staff were already there. An opening speech by Commander followed by dinner. On each table was a roasted meat platter consists of Roasted duck, chicken, pork and char siew. 2 tray consisting of vegetables and seafood and the steamboat with stock. At the corridors were tables laid with food. Our table consisted of Hwee teck, Daniel, Gerry, Lai, Boy Boy, Anthony, Gerrad, Benson and me. We had prawns, cockles, mussels, fried rice, chicken drum sticks, spring roll, wedges, soft drinks and ice cream.
The funny thing that happened was ice-cream was not place there at first. The cater brought boxes of ice-cream to the table. Gerry saw everyone rushing for the ice-cream and we went to get our share. Within 1 min all the ice-cream were gone LOL. We laughed at everyone who were looking for the ice-cream, it became exclusive to us. There was the same usual performances by SAF Music and Drama Company. After the performance was National Anthem and we left for office for briefing by our commander regarding our today's EX.
Very long time had not blog, abit lazy.
So fast already after 4 months at Tekong doing my BMT, its already 2005. Countdown to ORD haha not countdown to POP.
Tsunami
Towards the end of 2004, something catastrophic happened, the Tsunami. The Tsunami came without any warning and caught many people unprepared thus costing many lives and damages. Well we could not do anything but pray for the safe return of those lost and injured. I also did my minor part by donating to the relief groups, not a large amount but a thought. We could see the kindness and unity of various people from different countries and background helping hit areas for a single cause.
Reading from the papers, pictures of bodies submerged in water for days or weeks, partial village, or resort suffering washed away by the speeding waves. By looking at these heart-wrenching pictures, one could pray that we are lucky that we are still alive. Everyday on TV, newspapers, radio, streets we could see the plea for donations to rebuild these places. The money not only to rebuilt but to compensate damages and buy supplies like food, water and medical.
Wealthy artistes, celebrities, sportsmen, businessmen, politicians also donated generously for the cause, donating quite a large sum of their income. We could see their generousity and demostrates a role model for everyone to follow.

2005, also meant a new year with new resolutions and wishes. The first week of 2005, my best friend since poly, Kai had flew to Australia 2 months for training. It was a great opportunity for him as his career is secured with a good life. I always joked to him, your first pay could pay the instalment for an Evo. Rembering the times we were together through thick and thin. I wished him all the best and be back safe and sound soon. Too bad, he would be spending Lunar New Year at aussie. The celebration atmosphere there be different from us here. I guess he would be missing, his gf, family, friends and the food here.

After the last parade we are free to do our stuffs.
Physical emphasis is not that important here, as we are being trained to be intelligent and skilled soldiers. Lots of lessons taught by warrant officers, sergants and self-learning via computers. Sometimes before dinner, we would have IPPT training 5 static stations and a jog around the camp > 2.4km. After being posted here, my fitness very weak could not endure the run on the second round barely catching my breathe.
1 month passed and we had numerous tests and excerises. Tests in the form of practical operating and setting up of equipment or theory where we took our tests via the server. Most of the questions are very tricky, stimulates your mind by burning all your brain cells. One question could make your head grow bigger. Imagine 25 - 50 questions in a given time.
Excerises here are very fun. Since now we had 5 execrises some inside or outside camp. Some travelling on our own or via landrover. One excerise we travelled on foot outside the camp to various checkpoints. One ex was abit highly dangerous but safe if observed and follow safety instructions. The latest execrise on Thursday, our platoon are divided into various groups and loaded on different landrovers to various part of Singapore for monitoring.
Another month and 11 Feb would be posted out to unit, by that time, life would be another different story. My job based here would moslt be posted to bigger units
Advantages of my camp comparison to Tekong
1) My camp located near CCK Int. (Lot 1 Shopping centre our Nights off hangout)
2) My bunk is closest to the gate and cookhouse. (no need to march so far)
3) Bunk on 3rd floor only( Total 6 stories, 1st floor is storerooms, 6th floor currently is lecture and computer labs)
4) Toilet is much bigger and better facilities (10 showers, 10 cubicles
5) Beds better than Tekong
6) 2200 book in timing (Can stay at home longer for dinner)
7) Can visit canteen (Can buy food, magazines, newspapers)

First week at Stagmont
Sunday night could not sleep, tossed and turn in bed. Finally woke up at 0530. After changing, left for home and took taxi. Long journey to my camp. Reached camp at 0730 alittle early but there were a number of privates there. Bid goodbye to my mom and sister. Went into the camp with my platoonmates Ah Tai and Satu. We were asked to wait in the hall while they divided us into different platoons. In the end, Kelvin, Anthony, Garrad and Bobby were in my platoon. While Zhong Wei, Mitchel, Chong Wei, Jin Ming, Ah Tai, Satu and Qian another platoon.
My platoon is called 03 / 04 IC 1 Operator 3rd batch of year 2004 what a long name. My course Sergant was 3SG Tor / Wei Jian and course commander WO Mohan who was on MC. He lead us to our bunks to put our stuffs. I was appointed the manual IC which was incharge of the manuals. I had to distribute 12 manuals to each privates a total of 360 books. After distributing the books, we went for lunch. No need to scan 11B. We then proceeded to the hall for an opening speech. At 1730, we had an orientation run to introduce the camp. Later we went for dinner in PT attire. Then our CSM had something to talk to us. When we reached our bunks, mingled with new and old friends.
The next day 0530 reville with 5BX only do stretching and went for breakfast. After breakfast at 8 had lessons till 5pm in smart 4. My course is around 8 weeks long and after this I would be learning to drive. Hopefully can convert however i guess not enough mileage. Each day routine is about the same, 5BX, breakfast, long boring lessons in smart 4 till 5pm, dinner, admin time basically revising and sleep. 90% books, 10 % PT. We are not allowed to excerise on our own, fearing of us getting injured and being not able to follow the lessons.
Thursday had my first test, a practical test on battery and generator. To start up the damn generator you need skill, strength and lots of luck. Overall started the generator on 3rd attempt and passed. At night, SG Tor revealed the names of guard duties. 20, 22 Dec 22 men would be selected for guard duty. However on holidays, 2 men from my platoon would be selected. SUAY AR tio 26 duty.
Friday is first book out day, everybody is in high-spirits. Before dinner had practical lesson and it started to rain heavily, I was afraid the rain would affect our book out timing. Dinner was great spaghetti much less oily than Tekong. After dinner packed stuff and kept area clean ready for inspection. 1815 book out lor. Accompanied a friend to Bukit Batok MRT Station where I when to Jurong to change to the east line. The journey back home was around 1 hour.
Though the camp was under renovating the environment here was pleasant. Good beds, pillows, new fans, lockers. The bunk was smaller accomodating 10 beds. The toilets here are much bigger and better than Tekong. 10 shower cubicles, no more waiting.
The food here compared to Tekong serves much smaller servings. Normally I don't feel full after a meal, go back bunk to eat snacks. As the camp is smaller, no need to wait so long already.
Overall though training is slack, still missed the times during BMT, my bunkmates, wonderful instructors and the noisy but lively atmosphere.
Friday night, went to Holland V with Timothy to look for Rishee and Audrey. Rishee was always at this bar at Holland V call Wala Wala which has a live band performing.
Timothy and I waited for 30mins before entering. We ordered a jug of Carsberg for $38. It was crowded, not too long the band arrived and started to play. I think they are very good, however I couldn't appreciate the type of music. Left Wala Wala and shared taxi home.
Saturday Siming as usual, I think its a waste of human time haha, hours passed very fast. At night, studied for my test on Monday. Sunday morning, went Macpherson to play soccer. Not too bad managed to score a goal. After that Chong Kai gave us a lift home. Then i started to blog till now 1900, time to leave home for camp. Sian so far.

I am a Signal Operator
Very long time never blog.
Monday - I slack last night ya, I last the night before, now i slack like never before.
Tuesday - I slack last night ya, I last the night before, now i slack like never before.
Wednesday - Went to Parkway for a walk alone and buy groceries, got many brochures for Xmas sales. Xmas wish a new handphone and a new digital camera. My handphone is crazy always shutting down by itself, despite sending to Siemens to repair twice, the problem still persists. I think my ultra zoom camera quality still sucks over a camera designed to be fashionable.
Timothy's birthday
Talked to Timothy over msn and found out he was on MC for a week. He had his wisdom tooth extracted. OOuch !!! No solid food and plenty of rests. I can't imagine having my gums cut and sew back again.

Friday - Been waiting for this day, my posting day. Woke in the morning saw my sms, Kai asked me to check posting. I on my monitor and saw 20++ friends messaging for my posting, man i just woke up. Couldn't login to the server due to other trying to find their posting. So Kai checked my posting and I was posted to Stagmont Camp as signal operator, STAY IN BRING EVERYTHING BMTC ISSUED TO ME !!! Wah sian have to pack all my barang barang. Somemore camp so far at Choa Chu Kang. Congratulations to Kiat Loon and Guo Liang being our future commanders, wish you good luck and take care. My section had the most number of people going SISPEC the **** island again ahaha. Good luck to Jonathan, Jason, Hua Lian and Ali (my buddy). Seems like many of my platoon mates are posted same as me. Satu, Ah Tai, Anthony, Mitchel, Zhong Wei and others.
Saturday - Had been (Sim)ing the whole day. If we humans are like the Sims so friendly I don't think there will ever be conflicts but thats just a game.
Packed all my stuffs to bring into unit on Monday.
At night, Rishee and Audrey fetch me to Timothy's area for a meal. Rishee had gotten fatter since i last saw him. Met Timothy and we had pratas. Chatted over NS stuff as usual whil Audrey was WTF army talk again. Timothy had a bad accident where his car was smashed badly. His car smashed the centre dividers on the road. He showed us the pictures he took after the accident, I can't believe the shock he experienced as it was very bad. Luckily he was not injured and the car is still under warranty.
Sunday - Was raining heavily and decided not to go play soccer. Slack on the bed for a long time. (Sim)ing all the way till dinner. Had dinner and watched Star Awards. This year the concepts very interesting quite nice compared to last year. Alot of the artistes are also pregnant including our Ah Jie Zoe Tay.
Very moody tomorrow have to wake up early and report to new camp.

Steamboat
Sunday morning met up with the guys to play soccer. The weather was fine and performance was fine and enjoyed the game. Kai had something on so he left first. I then went back with Sandi, Edwin, Mingda and Kiat Loon. Mingda wanted to buy something at NTUC so we accompanied him. At NTUC an idea struck us, we decided to organise a small steamboat at Sandi's house. So we bought the necessary stuff and left for home.
Later in the afternoon, I met up with Jia Ming to go Sandi house. Reached there prepared and cook the stuff. The meal was simple yet delicious everyone enjoyed the steamboat. At around 8 Jia Ming had to book in so he left. So Sandi Edwin and me watched tv and played PS2. Left his house at around 2am.
